Shebang's mission: to support art-making and creative experimentation for all, rooted in the belief that creative thinking and exploration liberates. Art work is work and takes dedicated time and practice as well as community support and encouragement. Shebang aims to offer access to that, based in the Philadelphia community, through affordable studio access and community-building. All are welcome. We are a queer and trans affirming, body positive, sex positive space. In particular we aim to serve queer artists, trans artists, artists of color, artists who are parents, and people pushing the edges and deepening the practices of the field.
$$: The selected facilitators will each be paid a flat fee of $500.
Who can apply?: **Individuals or collectives whose primary modes are in dance/movement and who engage practice as research.
**If you plan to come from out of town you will need to arrange your travel and housing.
Selection and review process:
• Applications will be reviewed by Shebang co-directors: Meg Foley and Carmichael Jones
• Two workshops will be selected
• A rubric will be used to aid in the review process. Criteria will be:
Depth of practice: Does this practice provoke deep thought and rigorous attention?
Ability to realize: Does this artist have full capacity to translate ideas to extended practice?
Experimentalism: Does this practice expand on and/or interrogate conventional ways or moving, thinking, and being?
Appropriateness for Shebang: How well does this proposal fit within Shebang's space and ethos?
The selected workshops will each:
• be two days long, taking place over the course of one weekend
• take place in either February/March 2027 or October/November 2027
• be offered to participants on a sliding scale basis from $75-$150, with payment plan options available.
